Do you like sports? ... in Buenos Aires, you may practice them or just enjoy watching them as a spectator.

In our country, a great number of sports are practiced, and we are one of the best in the world in many of them, mainly team sports, such as football, rugby, basketball, volleyball, field hockey, tennis and polo...

Football: Argentina has won two world championships ( 1978 and 1986) and two world sub-championships ( 1930 and 1990) and football is a passion of multitudes here.
It you visit any of our stadiums in which the first division of the Argentine championship is playing, you will be able to prove it by yourself. Our local championship is considered to be among the four most competitive worldwide.
Moreover, in the category of sub-20 juniors, we have won 5 world championships, being the country which has won more titles so far.
The local idol is Diego Maradona, considered by millions of football fans as the best player of all times in the world.
The main clubs are: Racing, Boca Juniors, River Plate and San Lorenzo.

Rugby: practiced at the beginning by the large English community existing in our country, it has been played with more impetus and by more people each time.
In the year 1965 after a well-remembered tour around South Africa, our national team was baptized as Los Pumas.
Since the rugby world championships started, Argentina has not only participated in all of them, but it also achieved very remarkable performances in the last two.
Our best player has been Hugo Porta, our legendary flyhalf, who dazzled the rugby world in the ’80s.
The first division championship is very attractive and it is also played in all our country, in several provincial championships.

Basketball: Argentina won the first world championship (1950) and it is the current world sub-champion. It is currently the Olympic champion as well.
With Emmanuel Ginobili’s joining the NBA, this sport has become very popular among people who was traditionally not familiar with this sport.
Our local championship gathers more and more basketball fans.

Tennis: our main player has been Guillermo Vilas who in the’70s and ’80s won the US Open, Roland Garros and the Australian Open on two occasions. All in all, he won 64 ATP tournaments.
Among women, Gabriela Sabatini has been our most remarkable player, who reached the 3rd position in the world.
Nowadays, there is an important generation of players, who take up main roles in the most important tournaments’ finals of the ATP circuit.
Among them, we can mention Guillermo Coria, David Nalbandian, Gastón Gaudio, Guillermo Cañas and others.

Polo: Every November, and for over 100 years, the traditional Argentine Open Championship takes place in the Campo Argentino de Polo in Palermo.
This occasion is the meeting point of the eight best teams in Argentina, of whom we are really proud to the world’s eyes.
Our players and horses are the best in the world and compete every year in England, the United States, Australia and other countries to which they are invited for their great game level.
Among them we can mention Cambiasso, the Heguy brothers, and the Novillo Astrada brothers.

Visiting Buenos Aires gives you the possibility of living alive any of these spectacular shows or either take the chance of practicing them yourself.
With great pleasure we can advice or accompany you.
