Tigre and the Delta del Paraná
There are several worthwhile attractions close to Buenos Aires. The riverside suburb of Tigre, a popular retreat, is the best base for exploring the waterways of the Delta del Paraná, including historic Isla Martín García. Tigre Fluvial Station is the point of departure to travel through the five rivers in the area: Luján, Paraná de las Palmas, Capitán, Sarmiento and San Antonio. In the isles, there are many hostels, restaurants and recreational areas to spend a rewarding day of rest.
The delta is a vast maze of canals, tributaries, and river expanding out like the veins of a leaf. A boat trip from Tigre through the delta, makes a nice day trip from Buenos Aires. Along the way you’ll travel past colorfully painted houses built on stilts to protect them from floods. A comfortable way to travel the delta’s waterways is aboard a large catamaran. The picturesque Puerto de Frutos market, in the central part of the port area, is a good place to find handcrafted items at good prices. There are some interesting museum to visit as the Museo Naval de la Nación and the Museo de la Reconquista, both of which are dedicated to Argentina’s military history.
